# Configure Authentication

*Polarity Server supports three different methods of authentication.*

## Local Authentication

Local authentication is the default, out of the box authentication mechanism.

Users authenticate to Polarity using a local Polarity username and password. New Users and Groups can be added by Polarity Administrators via the "**Teams**" page. If SMTP is configured, an account creation email is sent to the new user with their auto-generated temporary password.

## SAML

Polarity supports SAML based authentication. For more information on configuring SAML including guides for various identity providers please see the SAML guides below:

- [Configure Okta as SAML Provider](/v1/docs/configure-okta)
- [Configure Azure ADFS](/v1/docs/configure-azure-adfs)

## LDAP/Active Directory

Polarity supports LDAP-/Active Directory-based authentication.
