# Exporting and Importing Dashboards

## Overview

A dashboard in ThreatConnect® may be exported as a dashboard file (**.tdb**). After you export a dashboard, you can share the corresponding dashboard file with other ThreatConnect users so that they can import the corresponding dashboard into their ThreatConnect instance.

## Before You Start

### User Roles

- To export and import dashboards, your user account can have any [Organization role](https://knowledge.threatconnect.com/docs/organization-roles).

### Prerequisites

- To export and import dashboards, turn on custom dashboards for your Organization on the **Account Settings**screen (must be an Accounts Administrator, Operations Administrator, or System Administrator to perform this action).

## Exporting a Dashboard

Follow these steps to export a dashboard:

1. Hover over **Dashboard**on the top navigation bar and select a dashboard to open.
2. Click the **⋮** menu at the upper-right corner of the dashboard and select **Export Dashboard**. A **.tdb**file will be downloaded to your computer.

NoteIf a dashboard contains [ThreatConnect Query Language (TQL)](https://knowledge.threatconnect.com/docs/threatconnect-query-language-tql) queries that reference Attributes or Organizations by ID number, each Attribute and Organization ID number will be replaced with the name of the Attribute and Organization, respectively, upon export.

## Importing a Dashboard

Follow these steps to import a dashboard:

1. Hover over **Dashboard**on the top navigation bar and click **Import Dashboard**.
2. Locate and select a **.tdb**file on your computer. If the **.tdb**file was imported successfully, a success message will be displayed temporarily at the lower-left corner of the screen.
3. To view the imported dashboard, hover over **Dashboard**on the top navigation bar and select the dashboard under **My Dashboards**.
4. Review the imported dashboard’s cards and update them as needed. For example, if you imported a dashboard from another ThreatConnect instance with cards configured to show data from [owners](https://knowledge.threatconnect.com/docs/ownership-in-threatconnect) in that instance, [update those cards](https://knowledge.threatconnect.com/docs/managing-dashboard-cards) to show data from owners in your ThreatConnect instance instead.

ImportantYou cannot import a dashboard with the same name as an existing dashboard listed under **My Dashboards** in the **Dashboard** menu.
