# Editing a Component

To edit a Component, click on its name (in blue text) on the [**Playbooks**screen](/v1/docs/the-playbooks-screen) to open it in the **Playbook Designer**. Alternatively, click ![Icon Description automatically generated](https://cdn.document360.io/dfc206c8-1c9f-4725-b74d-a66f83432320/Images/Documentation/editing-cloning-deleting-exporting-and-sharing-a-component-image-p5fjq6oc.png) **Components**on the side navigation bar of the **Playbook Designer**screen and select the Component from the list that is displayed (Figure 1) to open the Component in a new tab in the **Playbook Designer**.

If the Component is **Active**, hover over the **Mode**dropdown menu at the upper-right corner of the **Playbook Designer**screen and select **Design Mode**. If the Component is **Active** and currently being used in one or more Playbooks, hover over the **Mode**dropdown menu at the upper-right corner of the **Playbook Designer**screen and select **Edit as Draft**(Figure 2).

NoteActive Components are indicated by a green checkmark above the Component icon in the **Type** column on the **Playbooks** screen.NoteYou do not need to deactivate Playbooks using an active Component in order to edit the Component.
